What do you get when you are born in London, raised in Australia and eventually find yourself in Los Angeles? Besides becoming a rather worldly person, you also get a young artist by the name of Conrad Sewell.
2015 was a heck of a year for new male artists in pop. Off the top of my head I can name, James Bay, Hudson Thames, Shawn Mendes and Vance Joy. Of course to go along with those names, you’d have to include Conrad Sewell, who’s single “Hold Me Up” became a staple to many summer playlists.
Fast forward to the start of 2016 and we finally get to hear a little more of what Conrad Sewell can do with his EP, All I Know. The EP features obvious Michael Jackson influences, backed up by naturally soulful vocals. Sewell is certainly gifted in that respect and at some points – as crazy as this may seem – almost sounds exactly like Train’s Pat Monahan, a voice that rarely gets the credit it deserves.
All I Know is first and foremost a showcase of what Conrad Sewell can do and it’s a pretty enjoyable one. “Remind Me” is a very strong track, as well as “Shadow” and the aforementioned Michael Jackson inspired “Who You Lovin”.
It’s incredible to think that someone with a voice like Conrad Sewell has only just now gained some traction in the USA after nearly 14 years of trying to break into the business. If in fact there is a full length album in the works for the 27 year old, like I expect? It will be very exciting to see what he will do.
