I remember listening to Wilderado‘s Latigo EP and absolutely loving it. In all honesty, it was completely random that I listened to it. I was simply looking for a quick EP for the last stretch of a long drive home and noticed that it had just been released on Apple Music, so I decided to give it a go. I would soon find out that there was a connection in the band to an old friend of the magazine’s as well just to prove what a small world we live in.
The quartet from Tulsa, OK is back with a brand new EP titled Favors. The four-track EP features the raw indie ruggedness that made Latigo so great, but on top of that, Wilderado‘s sound has reached even grander heights with sweeping rock melodies, exquisite production, and of course…Maxim Rainer‘s incredibly rich and unique vocals.
It’s always fascinating to watch a band like Wilderado develop on the music scene. I remember first seeing Portugal. The Man in concert nearly a decade ago and falling in love with their sound, but it took “Feel It Still” to finally give them the big break they deserved long ago. Wilderado is no different. These guys are pure talent and although I said it before, it bears repeating, Rainer’s voice is flat out phenomenal. These guys deserve to be huge. Favors only proves how right I am.
