I’ll be the first to admit that I am not the coolest dude in the world. That being said, there is a subject that even my fellow non-cool friends give me a hard time about…my love for Coldplay and Snow Patrol. I have kept it sort of quiet over the years, laughing at jokes about the two bands whilst crying internally, humming along to “Spitting Games” in my head, but those times are gone! I am here to admit it to everyone, I will always love these bands and I am proud of it!
Despite my aforementioned love, I do have to admit that ever since “Chasing Cars” blew up, it did seem as though Snow Patrol became a – as I call it – “Grey’s Anatomy Band”. Their material would pop up on late night soaps frequently and it was ok, but it was a far cry from the indie goodness that was Final Straw. Coincidentally, I have been listening to Final Straw quite a bit lately, as it is one of my old favorites to go back to when I need to forget that I am in my 30’s and not a teenager anymore. So when I saw the cover of their upcoming album Wildness, my hopes got real high. The astronaut on the cover bared resemblance to the pair of explorers on their sophomore album and I felt as though this was a sign that they had returned to their roots.
Right now though, all I have to go off of is their brand new single “Life On Earth”. The band recently debuted the music video for the single and as if the stars have aligned, the track is vintage Snow Patrol. Does this mean the rest of the album will follow? Only they know for sure, but you can count me in as one excited fan who can’t wait for May 25th.
