It really pays to have friends with good music taste, I tell ya’. One friend of mine, in particular, seems to always find the bands that I somehow have missed and makes sure that I have a listen. About a week ago said friend sent me a link to Rainbow Kitten Surprise’s music video for “Fever Pitch” and I was hooked. The band’s sound is very unique, drawing from folk, hip-hop, swamp hop, rock and soul influences. Imagine a less abstract Alt-J or Bon Iver who can spit. Throw in some extraterrestrial harmonies and vocal textures that can whisper as effective as they wail and you will get something pretty damn close to these North Carolina natives.
The focus of this post, however, is the latest music video from Rainbow Kitten Surprise. Their music video for the track “Hide” may be nearly two months old already, but it is worth sharing regardless. The video follows four drag queens, one of which is coming out to his father for the first time. The vibe is absolutely perfect for the track and the end product is as fabulous as the subjects are. “Hide” culminates with a celebratory feel and if you aren’t smiling, you just aren’t living.
