I’ve been listening to “Alive” by Sia for quite a while now. It frequently comes on Apple Music’s “Pure Pop” station and that station just happens to be my go to. Honestly I don’t think you are going to find many people who actually dislike Sia‘s music, I mean, sure, “Chandelier” got overplayed, but other than that, Sia‘s vibe is pretty listener friendly all things considered.
With that all said, I do however have a problem with her music videos and the wannabe intellectuals who go gaga over them.
A few of the headlines regarding Sia‘s brand new video for “Alive” read something similar to “Sia Does It AGAIN” and actually, they’re right! Yes, Sia has done it AGAIN, I mean, literally, she’s done the same thing.
Let’s recap.
“Chandelier”:
Empty building – Check.
Child doing an interpretive dance – Check.
One shot filming – Check.
Alrighty then…
Now how about “Elastic Heart”:
Empty building – Check.
Child doing an interpretive dance – Check.
One shot filming – Check.
Okay, so she added Shia Labeouf and a giant bird cage to this one.
And, now finally the main focus of this review, “Alive”:
Empty building – Check.
Child doing an interpretive dance (ok so martial arts in this one) – Check.
One shot filming – Check.
I rest my case, everyone. Sia‘s music videos are like modern country music radio chord progressions. Repetitive and unoriginal with questionable subject material.
Like I said, I am actually a fan of the song, but coming from someone who actually does appreciate the beauty in interpretive dance, I also grew up around a bunch of farms and know when a dead horse is getting the crap beat out of it. And in my humble opinion…it’s time to bury the poor thing.
(This is not to take away from the exceptional talent of the young artists being used in these videos.)
This Is Acting by Sia is due out January 29, 2016 and will be available on iTunes.
