Is it a Hyundai commercial? Is it a coded message? A visual experiment? An ode to Bob Marley? Turns out it was actually made for the upcoming World Cup, but it could easily be at least three of the other four guesses too. Out of nowhere, Maroon 5 has released a music video for their version of Bob Marley‘s classic song “Three Little Birds” and despite the odd video and simple approach to the cover, at the very least it’s nice to hear the message of this song right now, even if we don’t really believe the sentiment is possible.
I have been fortunate enough to see Adam Levine perform some incredible covers in concert including “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak, “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours” by Stevie Wonder and I have even seen him take on an instrumental version of “Icky Thump” that he absolutely nailed. Along with those, Maroon 5 has released several covers (many as extras) on past albums such as “Kiss” by Prince and even “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. Now I am not going to say that this Marley cover ranks amongst those, but don’t let the haters in the comment section deter you. It’s an enjoyable track and a nice way to kick off this summer of music and the World Cup.
