Nashville alt-pop band, Jet Black Alley Cat, released a brand new video for their single, “Roxy.” The throwback vibe, filled with 80s motifs, equally matches the synth-pop sound that dominated the decade of neon and turtlenecks with sport coats. It is especially apparent when the band is highlighted by the neon pink and blue lights. It is self-described as vintage and it fits perfectly.
The video, which follows around Roxy during her escapade out getting a taste of the Miami nightlife, feels like an episode of Miami Vice and, at some point, half-expecting to see Crockett and Tubbs in the background arresting people (and no, I’m not talking about the terrible movie version with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell).
In any case, do not think that this video is light-hearted. “Roxy” is a hard, gritty story and is an attempt to escape the choices made that lead to other consequences.
Jet Black Alley Cat have developed a retro sound that, while may have originated 30 years ago, is up-to-date and fresh. “Roxy” is just the latest release.
You can pick up the single, “Roxy,” on iTunes, along with a few of their other songs!
