If you are looking for something funky, fun and a little grimy, then Sunsquabi‘s latest EP, Deluxe, will satisfy the cravings. The Colorado trio has put together some of the most entertaining instrumental electro-funk tracks out there. While this is not something that will be played on Top 40 radio, Deluxe will be perfect for those summer days and nights that meant to be spent chillin’ with friends with a cold tropic drink in hand. The latest EP is packed with those laid back, chill down tracks.
Hooking up with Nick Gerlach on the track “Dexter”, fans familiar with Sunsquabi will be pleased with the down-tempo grind that keeps the soul calm and in a groove. The song is deceptively catchy and there is a good possibility that you may find yourself head-bobbing and toe-tapping involuntarily.
The title track, “Deluxe”, shakes and grooves with the best of them. It draws influences from the mind-altering psychedelic rock and guitar heroes like Santana and Steve Miller, yet it is more accessible. The underlying keyboard melody keeps the track grounded. So when “Deluxe” takes those organic elements and blending them with the electronic samples, the track is elevated creating a sense of modernity and freshness.
The entire EP is a funk-tastic ride that recalls the days of LSD without the side effects. If you are in the mood for something a little different that can kick off your relaxed summer parties or barbecues, give Sunsquabi‘s Deluxe a try. You might be surprised.
