We reviewed the initial release of the single, “Wolves”, from Los Angeles-based duo, Smoke Season, back in November (HERE). And now the powerhouse electro-pop band is back with a provocative and sensual music video. This brilliant, retro-stylized video captures the essence of 1970s Las Vegas with quick glances of the arid dessert and an unending display of neon lights with some shots involving Fremont Street on the old Strip. Lead signer, Gabrielle Wortman, was integral in the vintage visual aspects of the shoot which features some special guests.
“Wolves” is one of inclusion. It involves appearances from transgender fashion model Luna Lovebad, actress Nicole Stark and fashion journalist Bella Graham. Smoke Season‘s brand of back-lit, indie-pop music is highlighted by the Wortman‘s soaring vocals and the stinging guitar riffs from Jason Rosen. While “Wolves” is a bit of a departure from their earlier tracks, the Los Angeles pair are pushing for an interesting shift in their style that involves reaching out to a wider audience that will makes this single a jumping off point. It is filled with more anthemic melodies and heavier reliance of harder driving beats and percussion.
Honestly though it is hard to expect anything other than excellence from Smoke Season. They continue to push the limits of music with their unique, sensual sound.
