Sleigh Bells are one of those bands that despite their incredible talent, somehow manage to get overlooked. I am not sure if their relative obscurity is intended by the band or a joint effort by hipster fans. Regardless, it works, because the underground vibe only adds to the special sounds created by Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller.
Kid Kruschev is the latest release for Sleigh Bells. Not entirely sure if it is a large EP or a mini album, but whichever it is, each and every track is utter shred pop brilliance. The second the guitar starts screaming, I dare you to change the song (and if you do, I will slap your damn hand). As usual, Krauss’s – which soar and dive through each track like a musical peregrine falcon – are the perfect companion to the mosaicked melody that is Sleigh Bells.
This album is not to be listened to one song at a time, you absolutely must (and should) listen to it all the way through to fully understand the masterpiece that Sleigh Bells cooks up with each and every release. Kid Kruschev is a wonderful surprise after being treated to their full length Jessica Rabbit last year and a must listen for anyone who truly loves music with originality.
