Turkish born SIRMA has been busy the last few months preparing her debut EP, To Love. And the time and effort that went into the finished product was not wasted. The EP is a stunning piece of art that was produced to be thought-provoking, but also easy to absorb. In a way, she style is a cleaner version of what Purity Ring does. The melodies and production are streamlined with a distinct purpose.
“My goal with this EP was to give the listeners the music that they could easily listen to wherever, whenever, without thinking too much about”, SIRMA explains. “But, if they ever wanted to think too much about it, they easily could.”
The now Brooklyn-based electro pop artist’s style is filled with a huge range of genres including a bit of dub-step and experimental rock, but SIRMA‘s vocals are youthful and sweet. Her heavenly and angelic voice helps slant the dark, poetic lyrics creating a slightly rose-colored tinge that is imbued with an ambient sound that is easy to lose yourself in.
Her track, “Love In The Dark”, starts out with a brooding theme that is enhanced by deep bass line, which complements her vocals. And her single, “Free Fall”, does use auto-tuning liberally, but it is not distracting. It also does not detract from the actual talent that SIRMA displays as she uses it to create harmonies during the chorus.
This is just the beginning for the Istanbul native and should not be the last we hear of SIRMA. Her sound is unique and her abilities to combine electronic and organic music is some of the best. To Love should be on your radar.
