Toronto’s Saya seems a bit like someone who accidentally time traveled from 2002 to 2018. Her style, her sound, and even her latest music video all have a vibe that recalls a time that most of us aren’t willing to admit was actually quite a while ago now…like really, what the hell happened? Rather than stick out like a sore thumb though, Saya instead seems to be rocking this blast from the past with a bit of playfulness and a whole lot of personality.
As I said before, the Canadian singer has a brand new music video out for her song “Side Ting”. The video features lo-fi filming throughout which sets the mood perfectly for the sultry track. Saya’s voice is ridiculously textured as well, imagine Lana Del Rey, but even more dynamic vocally. If you can’t hear that after just 10 seconds in? You should probably make an appointment to get your ears checked.
“I was lusting for something different and for something more. I tried to depict a playful yet intense visual to go along with the song that almost felt like you were in my head with me.” Saya says of her latest release. That mission was certainly accomplished.
