I remember a program on CMT when I was a kid called “Jammin’ Country”. Perhaps they still have something similar on the channel, I just haven’t turned it on lately. Regardless, “Jammin’ Country” used to feature some of my favorite artists growing up including Bruce Robison, Kelly Willis, Steve Earle and Chris Isaak. Although country music has always been known for its writing, the 90s didn’t really feature much of that with the popular artists and that program just happened to be the one place where the true singer/songwriters still were on display.
Sarah Petrella took me back to those days with her new EP, Seasons. The California native has come along at the perfect time as well, considering the new wave of outlaws that have received mainstream attention around the nation. Just imagine Petrella being the bourbon to Elle King‘s whiskey, a similar shot with just a tad bit sweeter taste.
The six song EP features a great selection of different tempos for Petrella that should please the rock fans, the country fans and everything in between. Sarah Petrella will definitely be someone I have my eye on in the future.
