One name that always seems to pop up when I am listening to some of my favorite singer/songwriters is Sarah Jarosz. Although she might not be a household name, if you are like me and need to listen to something stripped down and relaxing from time to time, Sarah Jarosz is always a safe bet.
Her latest release, Undercurrent, is yet another beautiful and classy Americana effort from the native Texan. Jarosz‘s calming voice turns the most stressful day into a peaceful escape and her knack for storytelling is nothing short of captivating.
Sure, some will argue that the album doesn’t change speed much throughout, but I personally find that in this case it works out nicely. Tracks like “House of Mercy” will remind some of The Civil Wars, while some of the lighter sounding tracks like “Comin’ Undone” even have a Jack Johnson element to them. Regardless of the album’s softness, it makes up for it with diversity. The addition of an electric guitar on the final track “Jacqueline” is a nice touch as well.
Undercurrent is a very enjoyable effort from Sarah Jarosz and I highly recommend you give it a listen.
