It is so much fun to introduce the world to brand new music and this is no different! Today we have the absolute pleasure of exposing you to an up and coming artist out of Byron Bay, Australia, Huey Blue, and his brand new single, “The Chase”. While his previous work was typically as a producer, but Huey Blue decided that it was his time to shine in the spotlight.
Stepping out from behind electronics and in front of the mic, the rugged songwriter captures the essence of 70s pop-rock with a modern twist by blending in elements of jazz, hip-hop and a beachy surf vibe. And to add to that 70s funk, Huey Blue enlists the help of saxophonist Sean McKenzie, who adds depth and quirkiness. It also incorporates a bit of dissonance and discord, which plays into the theme of “The Chase”.
“The track follows a relationship in turmoil,” The Aussie singer/songwriter explains. “‘The thrill of the chase’ begets unruly behavior. When bad decisions perpetuate on both sides, the strongest of bonds can eventually crumble.”
What does not crumble is the catchy, summery vibe. “The Chase” is laced with brilliant ebbs and flows that follows the motif of a rocky relationship. It is wonderfully balanced with smooth, soulful vocals.
As the second single off of Huey Blue‘s forthcoming full-length debut, Friday Anxiety, it solidifies the artistic concept. “The Chase” is a wonderful follow up to “Switchblade” and we are looking forward to the rest of the album.
