We are excited here at Lemonade to premiere the latest single/music video from Beard Bates, “Dominoes In Fire”. The Los Angeles by way of Virginia artist seems to leave no stone unturned. If you’ve visited his social media accounts, you’ll find videos of him playing on an acoustic guitar, belting out a tune with his textured vocals. That sort of sound seems to be right in his wheelhouse, but Bates doesn’t stop there. In fact, his newer work, including “Dominoes In Fire” features a more ambient sound backed by synth beats and dreamy melodies.
Beard Bates had this to say about the track:
“‘Dominoes in Fire’ lyrically portrays a fantastical dream encounter, one that represents and speaks of existence on Earth and human mortality. ‘Playing dominoes in fire‘ relates to the understanding that life is a game inherently fraught with difficulty, yet it is a ‘game’ and thereby
is also fundamentally enjoyable and novel. Life is bittersweet–and to live is to essentially play a game of dominoes while surrounded or in fire. Additionally, life requires patience and a willingness to go with the flow; despite our apparent free will, we are all at the whim of fate and/or mother-nature, and thus must learn how to be patient and wait ‘for when [our] sails will be called upon’ Additionally, I’ve had a difficult past five years, as I’ve had a chronic migraine condition that has limited me a great deal, and this song relates to my own frustration; my acceptance of what is; and my desire to remain resilient and face fate head on and without fear or expectations.”
The music video for the track features Beard Bates himself as well as a “mysterious” woman. Bates explains that the music video represents “one’s journey through life” while a man (Bates) finds himself dreaming of a “fantastical journey” where the woman represents death or a gatekeeper to the afterlife.
