The band formerly known as SYKES, has been re-branded. The electro-pop trio, consisting of vocalist Julia Sykes, guitarist Kris Taylor and drummer William Brown, are now known as PLYA (pronounced “ply-ah” and is derived from the Spanish word, playa, which means “beach”) and they have released their second single, “Adrenaline” and a subsequent official 360-degree music video.
Lead singer Sykes’s upbringing and heritage have given her an other worldly characteristic to her sweet, ethereal voice. Being from a mixed background (she is half English and half Brazilian) and having traveled and lived in some of the world’s most exotic places like Mallorca and Morocco, lends her experience to PLYA‘s interesting and unique sound. Match that with Taylor’s virtuoso, dreamy electric guitar riffs and Brown’s steady, straight-forward style on percussion and “Adrenaline” is a catchy, gorgeous piece of music.
“Adrenaline” is about “that perfect high you feel when you fall for someone new,” Sykes explains. “For us, the track captures the rush of living in that care-free moment, but not knowing where it will take you.”
And you could not ask for a better sophomore single in “Adrenaline” that sums up their skyrocketing potential. We are enamored with PLYA and we are just enjoying their creativity and uniqueness and unconcerned about what is next. Right now, PLYA also living in the moment and creating brilliant music that is fun, energetic.
