Over the years, I have been so fortunate to get to know a bunch of artists. One of my favorites is the incomparable Mimi Page. From the beginning with her first LP, Breathe Me In, and then her Requiem EP and now on to her sophomore album, The Ethereal Blues, we are treated to her unique dreamscape sound of ghostly ambient dream-pop. It is so difficult to describe the singularity of Mimi Page’s reverberations and flawless technique that permeate the entirety of The Ethereal Blues, but I will do my best to give readers an idea of what they will experience when they listen.
“Obsession” and “Black and Blue” are stand out songs that are ready for everyday play, as they play up Mimi Page’s peculiar and heartbreaking vocals. Page also has an outstanding gift on the piano, which is displayed on songs, like the title track, “The Ethereal Blues” and “Human Hurricane”. With that all said, do not walk into The Ethereal Blues blindly. This is a mentally captivating album and it will make you think. Be ready to emotionally invest, because The Ethereal Blues does not allow itself to just be ambiance.
You will never mistake Mimi Page for another artist. Her down-tempo style is so distinctively hers and there is no one else out there like her. The truth is that with each track on the new album, she builds her case as one of the front-runners for what truly artistic pop music should be about. It’s unique. It’s powerful. It’s engaging.
The Ethereal Blues by Mimi Page will be available on iTunes on November 13, 2015.
