Michelle Miears, simply known as MIEARS, released a brand new EP, Who Will Save You?, that will change your views on what is considered electro-pop music. Her first solo project away from her current band, BLSHS, the Houston-based singer-songwriter puts a unique spin on what would normally be considered electro-pop.
First off MIEARS highlights her ethereal, soprano vocals with melancholy, down-tempo sounds that are unfamiliar in today’s trumped up, overly-hyper and excitable computer-based beats that tends to drown out or excessively synthesizes a singer’s voice. It seems that everybody slams as many techno sounds into a song as possible with the obligatory beat drop, but she takes a significantly different approach and, in this case, less is more.
Every track on the 6-song EP is a musical soundscape filled with soothing, soulful themes and melodies. It is a reminder that not all electro-pop music has to be a club dance track and that raw, emotional vocals paired equally with delicate, sensual synth-pop samples make amazing music.
What is even better is that she wrote, composed, produced, recorded and performed each of the songs herself. MIEARS‘s vision for her debut EP is undeniable and complete. Who Will Save You? is redefining electro-pop and should be one to watch this year!
