The loveable Meiko has been a favorite of Lemonade for a long time now, as far back to her MySpace days. She has been featured in our earliest issues and as recently as last month when she was on the Hapa Tour with Marié Digby. Moving Day, her seventh studio album and third self-released title, is a heartwarming, charming album.
The album starts with the lead single, “I Do”. It is an acoustic folk lovers dream. It is tender, sweet and will be a first dance wedding song for countless couples this summer. With a title like “I Do”, what else did you really expect? The song itself is unmistakably Meiko. Her hushed, smoky voice carries the tune.
“I Do” sets the tone for the entire album too. On past records (Lovers & Fighters, Dear You, The Bright Side), there were always a few tracks with a bit of a snarky attitude, but Moving Day is truly and completely an album of love songs. Do not mistake that for dislike. The album is fantastic. It is just a lot slower paced than what was the norm for Meiko.
Who can blame Meiko for being happy and writing love songs though? She recently got married and had a huge support from her fans with the creation of this album. The other happy event is that Meiko is expecting her first child! So, congratulations to the new mother-to-be!
In any case, Moving Day is a dreamscape album of love. It is vintage Meiko with a happy twist. A bit more variety would have been nice, but that is just nitpicking. The album’s release date is just in time for the summer wedding season and it will fit the bill perfectly.
