I love finding new songs. I love that I get the opportunity to listen to brand new music. And I love that I get to share it with you all. Today, I have the absolute pleasure of introducing you to a brand new single, “Headspace”, from Long Island, New York native Matt Hylom. The track is expansive and littered with brilliant use of negative space. The stinging, yet tender, guitar riff that drives the single forward is perfectly balanced with Matt Hylom‘s smooth, honest vocals. Lyrically, it is raw and introspective.
“‘Headspace’ is a song about making mistakes, and getting into the mental state of being willing to try again, despite the odds,” the New York artist mused.
And thankfully, Matt Hylom is taking another shot with “Headspace”. He continues to take steps forward with his production and songwriting ability filling them with relatable and human emotions.
“The art is a ‘target’, which hearkens back to the line, ‘I missed the mark trying to find my place’. The idea behind that line is the analogy of an arrow shooting towards a target, being similar to setting life goals, and having a purpose. That analogy actually dates all the way back to Aristotle,” Hylom continued. “When you realize you’ve made ‘missteps’ or ‘missed the mark’, you can either sit around and complain about it, or try to learn from your mistakes, and ‘take another shot’.”
This self-reflective track is a revelation. “Headspace” shows that production does not have to be over the top. It can be simple and elegant. It is a wonderfully crafted song that deserves your consideration and should be a staple on your summer playlists.
