This has to be one of the most interesting remixes of a song I have heard in a long time. Jeremy Lloyd, one half of the electro-pop duo Marian Hill, has put his spin on the song, “Same Soul”, by Massachusetts-natives PVRIS. Additionally, Seattle-native singer/songwriter Jaymes Young is featured as a guest vocalist on the remixed track. This face-lift for this track imparts Jeremy Lloyd‘s distinctive, minimalist synth-pop style that meshes ridiculously well with alt-rock vocals of Lynn Gunn and Jaymes Young‘s indie-pop, folksy sound.
The coolest thing about this track is that all parties involved are fans of each other and you can tell from the completeness of the track how much respect they have for one another. “I’ve been listening to Jaymes since we first started touring,” said PVRIS vocalist Lynn Gunn. “I’d always listen to his EP on long night drives, so to hear him on our track is pretty surreal. I love the new take that he and Jeremy from Marian Hill brought to the track.”
The lovefest continued when Lloyd started in on the project. “The intensity of Lynn’s chorus vocal pushed me to discover a new groove – within my production world at least- for the drop, which is the ideal thing I always want to happen with a remix,” Marian Hill’s Jeremy Lloyd stated. “By listening to the a cappella and responding to it, I can find myself somewhere new.” It is always interesting to get into the mind of the artists and see a bit of their creative process.
“Thanks PVRIS and Marian Hill for this fun collab!” Jaymes Young mused. “I always love doing something different with artists I’ve never worked with before.”
We are thankful that this collaboration happened and the world is a better place for it. This is a great take on a brilliant song written and performed by a talented group of musicians.
