We are in some of the most divisive times that the world has seen in decades and because of the conflict, music has become more political and an unifying force for good. Love is one of the few universal things in this world. Who we love is something we cannot control. The collaboration between female artist/director duo SIMILAR BUT DIFFERENT (Charlotte Fassler (Man Repeller) and Dani Gridword (The Handmaid’s Tale) and alt-rock trio Mainland have created a daring and visually stunning video for “I Found God”.
The video shows 12 different real-life couples searching the streets frantically looking for their chosen mate. The couples are from all walks of life including non-binary genders, ages, races and everything else. It is a testament and visual proof that love is love. No matter who you are or what you believe in there is nothing in this world stronger than love. And as each of the couples find one another, there is loving and tender reunion.
And the music by California-based Mainland, which is comprised of vocalist/guitarist Jordan Topf, guitarist/keyboardist Corey Mullee and bassist Alex Pitta, is stunning and is filled with wonderful ups and downs. It creates a sense of the peaks and valleys of a relationship while still maintaining the essence of the emotional security of finding your life’s true partner. There is a warmth and depth to the song as well. The lyrics are wonderfully simple and executed with passion. “I Found God” is brilliant.
It is one of the most powerful music videos out there and SIMILAR BUT DIFFERENT and Mainland absolutely make the song come to life.
