We were introduced to The Ramona Flowers in June and instantly had a love affair with their first single, “If You Remember”, off of their upcoming EP, Magnify. Thinking back, we stated that the song was “grandiose and epic without being overly dramatic.” But you can totally check us on that with our review of the track: HERE. So, after a month and a half wait, we finally get to listen to the 4-song EP. The Ramona Flowers have this ability to catch your attention quickly and keep you engaged with their every element in their musical quiver.
So in addition to the aforementioned “If You Remember”, the EP features two new tracks, “Take Me Apart” and “Numb Drunk”, along with a the Luxxury Remix of “If You Remember”. First off, the remix is a trippy, funky electro-pop track that is piano-driven with entertaining dance-able beats that still recall the 80s feel. It is a great remix that adds a lot texture.
Now, the other couple of tracks are exactly what we are looking for. There is cohesion between the debut single and the new tracks, but they are take the band in a different direction that creates necessary diversity. “Take Me Apart” still has that nostalgic 80s vibe, but also draws in more of a lighter version of Daft Punk.
And the other original, “Numb Drunk”, back to more of the M83 sound with slightly more pop sensibility that will drive this down more of an electro-pop version of a chilled out Radiohead. There is a lot of experimentation and progressive themes that keep the song fresh, even with its down tempo.
There is so much to love about The Ramona Flowers, whether it is the throwback vibes or the progressive electro-pop sound, and the boys from Bristol are doing their city proud. And Magnify is the start of something glorious!
Magnify by The Ramona Flowers will be available on July 21, 2017, but you can pre-order the EP on iTunes now. In the mean time, check out their single, “If You Remember” on SoundCloud below!
