YouTuber Madilyn Bailey is better known for her covers than she is for her original songs. In fact her first studio release was a collection of covers including two of her more popular covers “Titanium” (David Guetta) and “Radioactive” (Imagine Dragons).
Her brand new EP Wiser is a bit of a departure though as it features mostly originals. Bailey is a very interesting artist. There is no doubt that she has vocal talent, but she is one of those singers who adds a whole lot of drama to her voice and at times it seems a bit overboard or out of place. That said, I do feel like that might be a personal taste issue, but personally I wish she’d reel it back just a little bit to see how different it would sound.
The title track is the most radio ready single off the EP, but each track is decent when it comes to writing and music. “Death of Me” can get a bit repetitive, but I might be splitting hairs a bit there also. “Survivor” is probably the strongest song as it’s right in her wheelhouse vocally and her writing is at it’s best here as well. The EP finishes with an unexpected cover of “Scars” (Papa Roach), a big change from the original as this arrangement is substantially different, especially when it comes to tempo and instruments (only a piano is used).
After years of seeing covers from Madison Bailey, it’s nice to see a release with mostly original work. If you’ve been a fan of her YouTube work, Wiser is worth checking out and you can do that below via Spotify.
