Opening random emails are like scratch lottery tickets. Most of the time you lose, but sometimes you win. Well, I won. I received an email from a young artist, Lynn Herzog, that contained her latest music video for “Rise High”. Being the intrigued writer that I am, I clicked the link and was blown away by the 18-year old singer/songwriter who simply goes by Lynn.
In “Rise High” her gritty, raspy vocals shine through when matched with a gentle, almost timid, acoustic guitar early in the track. As the song builds, you are hit with the nostalgic heavy, rumbling electric guitar riffs that drum up memories of the grunge rock themes of Soul Asylum and Soundgarden. Initially, there is a worry that her tender voice may be overrun, but Lynn rises to the occasion.
The track, co-written by London-based producer Yoad Nevo who has worked with Sia and Pet Shop Boys, is modern and oozes with updated electro-pop themes keep it relevant for today’s musical tastes. If I had to compare her to a contemporary, I would say she is a gentler, kinder version of Meg Myers, but Lynn still has a bit of an edge.
While Lynn has no plans of releasing a full album yet, she will be releasing new singles throughout the year. Follow her on her social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook and SoundCloud) for her latest release.
