I have been a fan of Scottish boy-girl duo LOVE SICK since they dropped their debut single, “Bullet”, last year. We showered them with praise for their sophomore single, “Hope” and now the pair, since moving to Glasgow as their permanent home, have released their third electro-pop single, “What I’d Do”.
While this single is built upon the same musical foundation as their previous singles, “What I’d Do” is layered with a few more production tricks and a European house/trip-hop sound that offers an upbeat, danceable backdrop with heartbreaking lyrics about a romance that is falling apart. If there is one line that sums up the basis of the failing love it is the chorus when lead vocalist Julie croons, “If you just don’t leave, If you just let me show you, What I would do for you”.
As we all know, love is fickle and we continually chase after those that we think are the best for us. In reality, love is work and this single, “What I’d Do”, is a labor of love by the gifted Scottish duo. In short, LOVE SICK is brilliant. Their high energy synths mixed with the soaring vocals have no only captivated us at Lemonade Magazine but has also garnered the support of BBC and Sir Elton John.
That is some high marks and, honestly, LOVE SICK deserves every accolade they receive. Hopefully “What I’d Do” is the third in a long line of amazing, energetic tracks from the Scottish duo. And if you happen to be on the British Isles, be sure to catch them live:
