LANY is either raging with the all caps or all about the lower case. Five of the six songs on their latest EP kinda are all titled in lower case while the final song on the EP is completely in all caps. Their name is all caps as well, while the name of their EP is the opposite, unless you’re looking at the cover of course. I am not sure if this means anything or if anyone really cares, but I personally find it fascinating.
The Los Angeles trio are once again doing their dreamy pop thing with this latest release as kinda is a soothing, yet upbeat EP featuring squeaky clean production and easy going beats. Songs such as “yeah, babe, no way” and “pink skies” remind me almost of a more laid back Chromeo with lyrics resembling streams of consciousness. Sometimes they are a bit unexpected, but it works out very well regardless.
kinda is such a relaxing EP. It’s one of those releases that you can listen to on repeat and never grow tired of it. The subject matter may not be anything new, but it’s not necessary that it is in this case. Whether they be about longing to be with the one you love or are liking (“current location”) or about getting restless in the city you call home (“WHERE THE HELL ARE MY FRIENDS”), LANY executes each track with surgical precision.
