Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Kina Grannis’s sophomore album, Elements, is a more mature LP that builds with layered vocals and supplemental instrumentation to create immense depth with only a few additional chords. Her sweet, kindly vocals envelop the senses into a warm embrace of luxurious harmonies and sweeping melodies and while that is initially intriguing, it is her vulnerability and passionate lyrics that hold on with a firm grip.
Elements is a celebration of what today’s independent artists are capable of without the back of a major label studio. Every song is a personal statement that gives the listeners a glimpse into the Grannis’s reality and soul. This LP is worth owning and should be considered a contender for Indie Album of the Year.
