The holidays are the perfect time of year for family arguments, right? With the way things went in 2016 with votes around the world, the last you need is for music to be added to that list of things for everyone to fight about. Have no fear, Kacey Musgraves is here to save Christmas.
Us progressives love Musgraves because she goes against the grain of “safe” modern country music and those who lean a little right just love her traditional southern sound. She’s a little bit naughty, but mostly nice and her voice will melt your heart and then make it grow three times its size. Musgraves has had much success with her two major label studio albums, Same Trailer Different Park and Pageant Material, so why not add a Christmas album to that list?
A Very Kacey Christmas features 12 songs, eight of them being classics, while the remaining four are unique originals from Musgraves herself. The four originals include a duet with one of the best voices in the music world right now, Leon Bridges (“Present Without a Bow”), a very “green” tune with legend, Willie Nelson (“A Willie Nice Christmas”), as well as two solo tunes (“Ribbons and Bows” and “Christmas Makes Me Cry”). Each original is refreshingly enjoyable. She also puts her own southwestern sounding spin on classics like, “Feliz Navidad”, “Mele Kalikimaka”, “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” and “Let It Snow”. On top of that she also somehow manages to make “Christmas Don’t Be Late” and “I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas” listenable which is a feat in itself.
If you are looking for some tunes to play while the family is over this holiday, A Very Kacey Christmas is the way to go. We here at Lemonade love it so much, we’ve included it below so you can push play right away.
Happy holidays everyone!
