We first caught wind of British-born blues artist, Jamie N Commons, when he and, featured Lemonade artist, X Ambassadors, released their song, “Jungle”, during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The catchy, high energy, bluesy sound was an inevitable hit waiting to happen and when hip-hop superstar Jay-Z featured on the single, it shot into the stratosphere.
Jamie N Commons was on his way. He collaborated again with X Ambassadors on another single, “Low Life”, which featured the stellar blues quality and his gravelly, raspy vocals. And on his self-titled EP, he has a wonderful acoustic version of “Low Life” that highlights Jamie N Commons‘s brilliant gritty voice that is heavily influenced by Gregg Allman.
Even though the EP is only 4 songs, the level of production is nothing less than what is expected from Alex da Kid, who is also responsible for the aforementioned X Ambassadors and Imagine Dragons. The latest single, “Let’s Do It Till We Get It Right,” is a high-paced blues alternative song that just rings true. It is hard to explain, but it is like a perfect blend of BB King‘s “The Thrill Is Gone” and Charlie Daniels‘ “Devil Went Down To Georgia.”
In any case, Jamie N Commons is a renaissance who is bringing back the blues with an updated alternative kick.
