Sumner, Washington singer-songwriter, James Coates, blends a wonderful combination of raspy, yet comforting, vocals with deft acoustic guitar work to produce great acoustic folk sound. Coates’s debut album, Land of Fame and Glory, is brilliantly composed merging stellar vocals with excellent songwriting worth of radio-play. If comparing to some of his contemporaries, Coates would be similar to the likes of Amos Lee and Bob Dylan.
While his vocals obviously highlight the record, his songwriting ability cannot be overlooked as Coates makes the whole listening experience as an emotional and aural journey. For those who look for an artist that truly respects music as an art form, look no further than James Coates.
