I remember when we reviewed HOLDN‘s debut single, “BURN”, last year (HERE). The dark-pop track was layered with ambient beats and moody R&B themes and highlighted her rock-inspired vocals that continued to thrive even with switching styles from alt-rock to dark-pop.
Well, HOLDN is back with another track, “LOSER”, that is an unapologetic anthem of emotional honesty that is filled with haunting, bordering on creepy, synths that teases out an unforgettable melody. The New York singer/songwriter called on Long Island rapper, Marcaux, to add a complementary verse that enhances the depth and versatility of the music and shows a level of harmonic chemistry is engaging and unique.
“LOSER” is filled with attitude and defiance that asks and answers the question which drove the tracks creation, “How can we be perceived as a loser if we work tirelessly at what we love?”
The beauty of “LOSER” is that no matter what anyone thinks or says about HOLDN and Marcaux, they have created real, raw music that is defined by their wants and desires. It is about self-expression, creativity and passion. You may not like it, but it does not mean that they are losers. If anything, quite the opposite. Art and music move us forward as a society regardless of individual preferences and HOLDN and Marcaux are that next step.
And with the release of “LOSER” today, HOLDN turns 23! Happy birthday!
