The Wales-native, Harper, released her second EP, Skin, recently and is poised to make a huge impact on the musical world. Her grounded R&B pop influence with a tad bit of dubstep (remember that?) makes for an interesting combination. Yeah, hold judgement on the dubstep element. It was played out years ago, but let’s be honest, it was played out because everyone was doing it. There was a bit of overkill. Harper does not have that issue. It is well-balanced and Skin benefits from her even-handed use of the deep bass lines.
While at times the bass stands out, mostly because it has not been used in a few year, the real star is Harper‘s brooding vocals. The vulnerable and deeply personal lyrics are enhanced by the dark, edgy R&B riffs. Honestly, the only issue with the 4-song EP is that it is only 4 songs.
