There is always something a little magical when a couple with musical talent decide to take their relationship to the next level. The chemistry between them can be intoxicating and seeps into the music. Boyfriend and girlfriend duo, Freedom Baby, have that energetic and creative chemistry that resulted in a brilliant debut track, “Video Daydream”.
Eric and Brianna met back in 2013 at a local Toronto concert. Their burgeoning relationship started innocently with their love for each other’s record collections. And in 2016 they decided it was time to make their own music. The experiment has worked out wonderfully and the track is a tender and sweet dream-like symphony that fuses Eric’s arrangement skills and Brianna’s heartfelt, earnest vocals. When describing their sound, the duo stated, “That feeling you get after waking from a dream, when the world hasn’t yet come back into focus and a thousand thoughts swirl around your head at once.”
Freedom Baby reaches out in to that hazy world of the unknown and finds away to bring it all back into a cohesive track. “It was after a while of experimenting with electronic sounds and orchestral elements we came up with “Video Daydream”. We arranged the song with a Snakes & Ladder game board as our blueprint,” they mused. “Each melody and instrument snakes and climbs from one place to another and each time you play something new is going to reveal itself.”
The raw, slightly imperfect production, due to recording in Eric’s apartment, gives the track that indie feel which makes the music real. And there is something to be said about using what is available.
“Video Daydream” is like that initial sip of coffee while watching the sunrise on the first day of a long vacation. If that is not enough to pique interest, there probably is nothing that will.
