Miami’s EL MAR has been a complete surprise for me. Although I quite enjoyed the first track I’d ever heard of her’s, “You’d Know Today”, I can’t say that I expected her to grow quite as much as she has in just one year. There is a huge difference between enjoyable and remarkable, now I am not saying the former isn’t enough, music is meant to be enjoyed after all, but EL MAR has taken her artform to the next level as she gets ready for the debut of her latest EP Walking With Dogs.
“Sin Sin” is the brutally honest story of EL MAR’s own estranged father who struggled with drug addiction and fulfilling his paternal responsibilities. The track features a country sound to it and is delivered beautifully without the atypical drama and darkness you would expect with such a song. Instead, the vibe is more macabre and rustic which allows EL MAR to show off a different side of her vocals.
The release of Walking With Dogs is just around the corner here on June 15th, so be sure to mark that down on your calendar. From what we’ve heard from the EP so far, it is sure to be worth a listen.
