When it comes to experiencing life, 21-year old singer/songwriter Dylan Dunlap has been there. The Los Angeles-native has felt the highest of highs and the lowest of lows ranging from signing a record deal and appearing on NBC’s The Voice to busking for tips on the streets of California and fighting with his own mental health. To say that Dylan Dunlap is a survivor is would be an understatement.
This unyielding struggle with his mental illness was a catalyst for a brilliantly open and vulnerable single, “Microphones & Lights”, that Dylan Dunlap wrote during a bout of writer’s block. The track was a cathartic release that allowed him to unleash his pent up emotional energy in a creative manner.
With his blending of traditional folk and soulful indie rock themes, the rising artist has found a niche that drives the heart of the track. His smooth, velvety vocals reach out with a tenderness and relatable honesty.
“For this, it’s the fact that I sometimes just don’t know what I’m doing. I have struggled, I have felt broken down, and I’m not afraid to sing about it,” Dylan Dunlap stated speaking of the single. “We are all human.” And that is the truth of it and “Microphones & Lights” is a wonderful musical representation of Dylan Dunlap‘s humanity.
Additionally, in hopes to raise awareness on mental health, Dunlap has generously pledged 100% of the proceeds from the sale of his 2017 EP, Feels Right At Home, will be donated to PSA Behavioral Health Agency in Phoenix, Arizona.
