Editor, Brandon Enyeart, and I have had a number of conversations in the last few weeks about the amount of stellar music that has been released in 2017. I know that music is a subjective thing that some people will like and others will not. With that being said, the amount of unadulterated talent we have seen is amazing and singer-songwriter David Ryan Harris is no exception.
The Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist has released his seventh solo record called Songs For Other People and it is an absolute masterpiece. The soulful, R&B styling of the veteran musician are filled with subtle, tender melodies and honest, poetic lyrics that you would expect from a man who has been in the business for the past three decades.
There is not a single track on this 7-song LP that is weak. Every song is a gem, but there are a couple standouts. “Kerosene” is songwriting perfection and shows every ounce of David Ryan Harris‘s prowess as a musical genius. And his playful, yet heartbreaking “Coldplay” is about reminiscing on a love lost and how songs can remind us of better times or past relationships. Take a listen and you will not be disappointed.
So if you need some legitimate soulfulness, then David Ryan Harris is your man. “Soulfulness comes from telling stories in in the most honest and direct way that you can,” he says. “People relate to what you’re saying when you sing from the heart.” And Songs For Other People is an album that fills your heart with compassion and pure joy.
