It’s crazy to think it has been 15 years since Coldplay released their debut album, Parachutes. I don’t know where the time has gone and how I got this old, but through much of it, Coldplay has managed to release consistently good music. Sure, there were some people who were disappointed in Mylo Xyloto, but if that’s the worst they’ve had I think they’ve done alright. I imagine many artists would love to be in that position.
Head Full of Dreams is the latest from Chris Martin and crew and once again they have released a solid album. They pick up where they left off with Ghost Stories, for the most part, featuring a more pop-friendly radio vibe, but also with the overall subject matter. The album features many collaborations including one of my personal favorite tracks, “Fun,” which features Tove Lo, but names like Beyoncé and Noel Gallagher also can be heard on Head Full of Dreams. “Everglow” is another track that stands out which supposedly features Martin’s ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow both vocally and lyrically, although she is very hard to hear throughout the song.
Coldplay gave us two of the best albums of the past 20 years with Rush of Blood to the Head and Viva La Vida, it will be hard to ever top those two works of art. With that said though, I have never been disappointed with a Coldplay release and Head Full of Dreams is no different. Another job well done.
Head Full of Dreams by Coldplay can be purchased now on iTunes and other major retailers.
