The new album from Colbie Caillat, The Malibu Sessions, is exactly what you would expect from the singer/songwriter. It is an acoustic, fun-loving album that would be best played laying on the beaches of Malibu while the sun sets. It is the quintessential vibe album for cruising down the Pacific Coast Highway with the top down.
There is nothing terribly unique or anything really new from the Malibu native, but if you are fan you are going to enjoy every single song. Every track is catchy, feel-good and melodic.
Planning a first dance with a little bit of bounce and energy, check out, “Goldmine.” The first single off of The Malibu Sessions is sugary sweet and cavity-inducing love song that will probably be the wedding song of 2017.
The other song stood out was “Gypsy Heart.” The song introduces itself with the simple beach sounds and waves crashing along the shoreline, but then jumps into her familiar summer guitar riffs and friendly, lovable vocals, interestingly the song name is same as the title of her previous album. It is probably the catchiest song on the record.
The final track of The Malibu Sessions, “Now”, is her self-empowered song and it is brilliant. It should be the next single and will most likely garner commercial success like “Try” did previously.
The Malibu Sessions is exactly what Colbie Caillat is supposed to be. It is a very sensible pop album that is made for the masses, but still has that personal touch of being written by a singer/songwriter. Caillat has also announced that she will support the album with an acoustic tour. This is an album worth having if you are planning on driving through California any time soon and have a convertible.
