The debut self-titled EP for the Montreal duo, Bound and Tethered, is that rustic, grassroots sound that lovers of indie music look for. The Americana-folk duet of Stefanie Parnell and Chris See Hoye blends the wonderful harmonies, country-inspired acoustic guitar and heartfelt, honest lyrics, reminiscent of the The Civil Wars.
The Bound and Tethered EP is full of beautifully melodic and genuine guitar riffs that drive each track. The gentle country twang in Parnell’s clear and tender voice is perfect and Hoye’s soothing vocals adds depth and richness. The final track, “Long Road Home,” is a prime example of their ability to find that flawless balance.
There is something refreshing about a stripped down EP with vocals, a guitar and stellar songwriting. Bound and Tethered confirms that there is no need for a ton of production and electronic additions to create amazing music when there is talent.
The Bound and Tethered EP will be available June 19th at the EP Release Show at the Montreal Folk Festival.
