I can be a bit hyperactive and sometimes that makes it hard for me to truly appreciate laid back music. Recently though, I have tried the “adult” thing to do and have trained myself to sit down and really allow myself to relax to some good easy going music.
If you find yourself in that boat, you might want to listen to brand new artist, berhana just like I did. His self titled EP features a mix of soul and some slow jam rap over a ridiculously dreamy backdrop. It’s not what you would normally expect from a rap release or an R&B release for that matter. That’s what makes the EP so unique.
The lead track “Brooklyn Drugs” features soulful vocals with just a bit of rasp mixed with drip drop beats that really help set the mood for the rest of the EP. “80s” ups the energy just a bit, but still keeps the mood pretty relaxed, while “Janet” provides a bit of a throwback sound and is easily the most radio friendly track on the EP.
berhana is a refreshing addition to the music world. It’s not often these days that you find someone who can rap and also has a genuinely good voice. Comparisons could certainly be made to R.Kelly, but I’d prefer to think of berhana as something unique and new. This EP is definitely worth checking out.
