Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Amy Allen is stepping into the spotlight with her upcoming EP, Get Me Outta Here!, which is basically her coming out party. Mostly known to have written songs for other artists, the young vocalist decided to take her music into her own hands, a decision we can all be thankful for. The catchy, energetic beats of indie pop, the strong influential backbone of rock and her happy-go-lucky, peppy vocals are a perfect recipe made for Top 40 radio. Throw in some brooding, honest lyrics about self-inflicted emotional entrapment and it is a dark pop sensation waiting to happen.
When talking about the name of her forthcoming EP, Amy Allen stated, “I chose to name the album Get Me Outta Here! because that feeling of restlessness mixed with anxiety and frustration is a sentiment that threads its way through the entire record. I also love that it sounds like a classic movie title, a la Can’t Buy Me Love or That Thing You Do!”
And if the point was to create a statement with her Get Me Outta Here!, Amy Allen has crushed it. The guitar-driven pop style is packed with a nostalgic 1990s feel and it is perfectly displayed on the single, “Chasing Jenny”. The track centers around the idea that Allen is chasing after a boy who is still hung up on this other girl, Jenny, and Allen cannot breakthrough to get his full attention no matter how good she is for him. It is a story of longing and desire, but the frustrating fact that she is not the one. The track is so utterly relatable and catchy, it is hard not to sing along.
The 8-song Get Me Outta Here! is full of radio-ready tracks and there is absolutely no reason why Amy Allen should not be the next big pop star.
