Alexa Wilding has been through some difficult times. Her son, Lou, having cancer (and beating it!) and questioning herself as a musician, just to name a couple. Her latest EP, Wolves, is laden with brilliant dreamy folk tracks that would make her son proud. Not to mention that she wrote the entire EP while in a hospital room on a toy piano. Yeah, you read that right.
Not really sure how she did it, but the results speak for themselves. Each and every track is polished, mature and brilliantly constructed. The heartfelt, poetic lyrics are nothing short of spectacular. Alexa Wilding held nothing back on Wolves and should be applauded for it.
There have been some amazing EPs this year, but there are no others that are as emotionally charged. Picking a favorite track is next to impossible. While none of the songs are about Wilding‘s struggles with her son’s illness, she does delve deeply into her past and the struggles she dealt with.
The first single, “Eden”, has that old school folk rock reminiscent of a Fleetwood Mac. A driving bass line, with a gentle weeping blues guitar riffs combined with Wilding‘s tender, raspy vocals makes this song nearly perfect. It is raw and is emotional.
Wolves is a must-listen EP this year. Do not pass up this gem.
Wolves by Alexa Wilding is set to be released on July 8, 2016. Check out her website for more details!
