The first time I saw Against The Current live was at the final stop of 2016’s Warped Tour in Auburn, WA. I interviewed the band earlier on in the day which happened to be an absolute scorcher and you could tell that the rigors of such a tour had started to get to them. If you think they let that change their performance later on in the day, you would be very wrong however. Despite the exhaustion and longing for their own beds, they threw down on stage like any epic band would.
In their seven years of existence, Against The Current have grown exponentially. What started out as a bit of a throwback to a circa 2002 pop/punk band, has since become a multi faceted 2018 rock machine. Don’t get me wrong, I loved their early stuff. It’s the kind of music that I jammed to back in the day and they did it especially well. With that said, you can’t deny how music smart the trio is, constantly infusing elements of EDM and pop into their already solid sound to keep everyone guessing what is coming next.
Lead singer, Chrissy Costanza took to social media earlier this month regarding two singles released ahead of their brand new album to say “We’re so excited to start the next chapter of this journey with you all, hope you’re loving all of the new as much as we are.”
One of those singles, “Strangers Again” was accompanied by a music video featuring Costanza trapped in a futuristic prison while she shows off a little bit of her interpretive dance skills for good measure. The song is a wonderful appetizer for a main course that I am particularly super stoked for.
