When Adrian Hibbs‘s new video for his single, “Focus”, popped up in my inbox, I was curious. The first images are dark, smoky anime characters around a classroom, then the scene transitions showing supernatural creatures that are tinged with hues of red. That is then followed up by some sexual, but nothing explicit, images (for some it may be NSFW).
For those of you who are familiar with anime, you will be drawn – pun completely intended – in by the dark, sensual art. the illustrations and artistry cannot be denied. It is a beautiful visual escapade.
That aside, what really set this track apart is the amazing down-tempo production from Los Angeles-based Adrian Hibbs and the wonderfully tender, wanton vocals of British co-writer, Chenai. Additionally, the LA producer has found a sound that is unique which sets his production style apart from the fixtures of The Chainsmokers, Zhu, Odezsa and his peers. This is so important. There needs to be an individual persona represented and Adrian Hibbs does that.
Chenai, who lives in London, flew over to California multiple times to collaborate on the track with Adrian Hibbs. The chemistry between the two is undeniable and the song’s dark, sexy feel leaves the feelings of wanting more. This collaboration is a beautiful example of why working in-person is a benefit even at the cost of flying internationally.
There is so much to enjoy about “Focus”, from the music video to the production to the vocals and lyrics, it is hard to deny the quiet confidence in the collaboration between Adrian Hibbs and Chenai. It is a fantastic track in which the foundation is created by solid songwriting and elite production techniques.
The new single, “Focus” by Adrian Hibbs featuring Chenai, will be available on iTunes and most other major streaming services on July 28, 2017. Luckily for you, the brand new music video debuts today! Watch it below.
