When you think of Nashville, Tennessee, what is the first thing that comes to mind? My guess is country music (or for those others it is probably rock), but would you have guessed that R&B blended with hip-hop is starting to show its insanely style in the heart of country music? Probably not. Fortunately for you, a brand new face is emerging from Music City and bringing a new single with her. The Nashville-native Abigail Rose, who has been singing for as long as can remember, has released her song, “The Risk”, to critical acclaim.
The dark-pop single, that incorporates her raspy, soulful vocals and the clean, minimalist hip-hop beats and synths, is absolute bliss. “The Risk” is an emotional bombshell that questions the risk and reward of becoming emotionally vested in a relationship. It is a balancing act that like the track itself brings forward by starting with the safety of basic beats and simple synths, but as the Abigail Rose progresses the chorus is invaded by blaring horns as a warning.
This is something brilliant and moving and Abigail Rose has been able to capture that impossible feeling and essence of deciding whether the person you are with is worth heartbreak. That vulnerability is the risk and the indie singer/songwriter is absolutely worth it.
