Sometimes we stumble across artists and sometimes artists reach out to us. In this case, Los Angeles singer-songwriter Aaron Rickel is the latter. He came to us with a vision and his debut single, “Fading Summer”, and we could not resist. This wonderfully acoustic folk-pop track is filled with lamenting losses and mourning the fading past, but as Rickel states, “When something in life doesn’t go according to plan – a relationship, an opportunity, a dream – I tend to obsess over it, playing it over and over in my mind, wondering what could have been.”
The track is full of rolling acoustic guitar riffs, waves of gentle rising and falling piano melodies. The mild sting of the electric guitar are those feel twinges of remorse that we all feel when something is ending even though we can not let go. But the song itself is an uplifting way to reach back and remember those good times. “Fading Summer” is a way to let go without actually letting go. “This song allows me to reminisce and experience nostalgia while pushing me to stop living in the past,” Aaron Rickel says.
And in its own special way, “Fading Summer” is just that. It is that nostalgic feeling of love lost and that warming embrace of the past, but with an eye finally moving toward the future.
This debut single is the first of four new original songs that will be released leading up to Rickel‘s new EP, Blood & Bone, that will debut on March 31, 2017. Look for more new music and updates on his Facebook page.
