It is a bite-sized sampling, but the four track, three originals and a remix, EP 1 from British duo, 96 One Dream is actually quite a surprise. Channeling some of the 1990s and 2000s trance/dance pop vibes, best friends Vanessa Rogers and Holly Murray bring listeners a fun sound that has been lacking quite a bit as of late.
Both at just 20 years old, 96 One Dream shows a lot of talent early on with EP 1. The production is very well done and the lyrics are catchy. “Now My Minds Made Up” is probably the solidest track overall, featuring a trippy electronic drum beat complimented by a simple piano riff. “I Could Be the Lover” features even more percussion and also shows off a little flexibility vocally.
96 One Dream are something really unique right now. As this generation gets older, I think we fall into the trap of thinking that the 90s were not all that long ago, when in truth…it was. So as odd as it is for me to say this, they are sort of a throwback for this generation. The beats are cleaner, simpler and in a lot of ways easier to listen to compared to some of the EDM-inspired tracks that have been released over the past few years. Personally, I am really looking forward to seeing where they go from here.
