It’s always great to catch up with a Lemonade Magazine favorite and that’s just what I did recently with Olivia Millerschin.
The Michigan native just released her brand new album, Look Both Ways, so we talked a bit about the album, a bit about eating veggies and more! Here’s how it went…
Brandon: Hey! It’s been a little while. How have the last two years been?
Olivia: It’s been busy! I didn’t have a lot of time to record music while doing the reality show on NBC, touring in the U.K. and such, so when I finally got the chance to recently, I took advantage of it.
B: How was the U.K.?
O: It was great! I opened for Orla Gartland and all the crowds we had were so nice. Maybe they just thought I was a goofy American, I don’t know.
B: Did you get to enjoy the food over there?
O: Well I had just gone vegetarian before the trip, so my experience was a lot different than most.
B: Still going strong?
O: I am still pescatarian now. It’s a lot easier on tour if you eat fish.
B: Yeah it’s been almost 13 years vegetarian for me, but I am always like “I swear, I am not an annoying vegetarian!”
O: I know! It’s like, I’ll always find something.
B: You worked with Sawyer Frederick from The Voice on your new album, Look Both Ways. How did that collaboration come about?
O: I had actually worked with him on a compilation album he was on with Tony Bennett and Ingrid Michaelson called The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto. He had asked me since I was a local and so yeah, I randomly asked him if he’d sing on this record and he did.
B: Well you guys sound great together.
O: Thanks!
B: We’re used to hearing ukulele, guitar and piano from you, but Look Both Ways features a lot more production. What was it like adding some layers?
O: It was cool, I think that these tracks called for that and I really like the direction the music is going.
B: It definitely sounds great, I love “Get It Right”, it has a cool guitar in there as well.
O: That actually started as a uke’ song! *laughs*
B: *laughs* Well that kind of makes sense now that I think about it.
O: Yeah, it sounds so much better with the guitars in there.
B: Any plans on coming to the West Coast?
O: I want to come out there! I did an East Coast tour and was thinking I should do that for the West Coast next. So, hopefully soon!
